Current Location: Vancouver, BC. (Switching gears from road-trip mode to backpacker mode. Leaving for Oz Sept 15th.) PLEASE NOTE: Two maps now! One for the Northern Road Trip and another for the Round-The-World adventure. Click on icons to get links to articles and photos. Zooming in and scrolling helps a lot! Here is the Australia and New Zealand map. We started our travels with a 3+ month road trip through the north-west corner of North America. Traveling up the Alaska Marine Highway (a.k.a. the ferries), explored the inside passages of BC and Alaska. Pulling back into the mainland at Haines, we then commenced the real road section of our travels by heading up quickly through the Yukon and back down into south central Alaska. After 6 weeks checking out the Chugach Range and Kenai Peninsula, we headed back into the Yukon to do the Chilkoot Trail. An exciting mechanical failure almost stopped us, but made it just in time for our trail reservations. After the trail, we were running short on time, so we made a hasty drive down to Vancouver in only 6 days, stopping at some favourite spots for swimming, fishing and climbing. We have a google map that shows the entire route with a few links to blog posts and photo galleries.
The next section of our travels is a tour of Australasia, South-East Asia and Africa. The time frames are relatively flexible, but we're planning for 4-5 months in each region. Things start off September 15th when we head off to Australia for two months. We'll be heading to New Zealand for two months on November 15th. After that, the monsoons will control our direction, but the general idea is to start some surfing and diving in the south pacific islands and Indonesia. The remainder of the trip will be figured out as we get closer to February. We'll most likely switch back into rock climbing mode at that point, so figure on Thailand and Vietnam topping the list of destinations. Similiar to the Northern Road Trip, we have interactive google maps for each region of our "Round-The-World" trip. Be sure to check it out the current map for Australia and New Zealand!
