Newsflash

July 30th, Chamonix, FR: Claire is down and out for a few days.  One mishap was definitely my fault, taking her down a crappy downhill MTB run in Le Tour.  The other, more serious bang, occured as she walked out of the bushes after relieving herself.  A good reminder that things can go wrong even when doing the most routine of tasks.  In other news, check out the new Italy post.

Q.  Can I make asinine comments on your site?

A.  Yes!  Now you can mock, chastise and deride to your heart's content.  If you are a registered user, then your comments are immediately posted.  However, if you are a chicken-hearted anonymous user, your comments will first be submitted to us for review prior to appearing on the site.  We have control issues.

Q. What is the point of this site?

A. This is our way of staying in touch with family and friends. We're going to be blackberry and phone free, so this is our main communication vehicle. Its also a great way to document everything as we go.

Q. Do you think anyone will actually read this?

A. Well, Claire's sister Kate doesn't think so. But maybe one or two people will? You are!

Q. How did you decide where to go?

A. The road trip was Chris' idea. But the round the world trip? About a year ago, we wrote down all the countries we wanted to visit. Over the last year, we pared that down, crossing countries off the list. Then, on a plane coming back from Phoenix, we hammered out the rough itinerary - this was about 8 months ago and we've stuck to that itinerary ever since.

Q. How much is this going to cost?

A. Our research shows that people can travel round the world on anything from $15 to $75 a day. We're budgeting $65 a day. This covers everything except travel insurance, shots and flights. We're going to end up renting a bunch of gear (scuba, climbing, surfing etc.) so we budgeted on the high end.

Q. What are you going to do when you get back?

A. We have 16 months to figure that out. Short answer - no clue.

Q. Why the name "Shortpants"?

A. We are both ridiculously short.

Q. What is your basic travel itinerary?

We have 4 rough sections to our travels:

  1. Northern Road Trip
  2. Oz / NZ
  3. South-east Asia
  4. Africa

Amazing!
Congrats on your round the world trip. This is awesome! My husband and I are doing a shorter version and loving every minute of it. - We skipped the big wedding and are spending it on a 6 month honeymoon. Only visiting Fiji, Hawaii and New Zealand.

I hope to eventually have a bigger trip like yours.

Cars and houses are expensive and not every person is able to buy it. However, loans was invented to help different people in such hard situations.
